GP Johnston Prize in Scottish Book History and Bibliography


The Edinburgh Bibliographical Society sponsors the G.P. Johnston Prize in Scottish Book History and Bibliography. Named after the Edinburgh bookseller and bibliophile George P. Johnston, founder of the EBS and its secretary from 1890-1932, the essay prize is open to Graduate/Postgraduate students or scholars who have been awarded a Ph.D. within the three years prior to competition year.


Essays submitted for the annual competition can cover any period of book history or bibliographic interest, with the proviso that it includes a Scottish focus. It should be no more than 8,000 words and should not have been published previously. The winner will receive £200 and be published in the Journal of the Edinburgh Bibliographical Society.


Submissions should conform to the MHRA style guide <http://www.mhra.org.uk/Publications/Books/StyleGuide/download.shtml>  and be submitted electronically to Dr. Joseph Marshall via email (joseph.marshall@ed.ac.uk) by 31 March 2011.
